Bob Silman , (1935-2018) Founder of Silman Bob Silman will be remembered for his engineering talents and insights, his work for civic groups and industry organizations, his advocacy for historic preservation and sustainability long before they were commonplace, his role teaching and nurturing the next generation of designers, and his pioneering work at an international level through the International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE). Bob was known as a leading preservation expert; his notable projects include the structural stabilization of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, the new Ellis Island Museum of Immigration, a series of renovation and preservation projects at Carnegie Hall, and the rehabilitation of numerous derelict residential buildings to create affordable housing in the Bronx. He also led the relocation of the 175-ton Survivors’ Stair from street level at the World Trade Center to the new underground National September 11 Memorial Museum.
